The first time I had a really good hot chocolate was years and years ago in Madrid, it was not too sweet and yes, hot. I had it with fried bread called churros. Ever since I have been searching for the same kind of experience, still never had one in the states.
A couple of years ago, a friend of mine took me to a place in Montreal, called Juliet et Chocolat and I got to try something similar, as thick, so so hot, in the sweet side, but it was good nevertheles, French has no churros. Last year I went to Barcelona, and my quest continued. I look at guide book for a place that is known for it's chocolat and found La Granga, so I went and tried one, close but no Madrid, neither churros, we had crepes instead. Chocolat at la Granga was a lovely time. I guess my quest will have to take me back to Madrid.
