This fish market is right next to my morning frequented cafe. It is one of those places I know by passing in front of it so often. I know they sell fish, the front window is decorated with catch of the day on the bed of ice. I know the place is well maintained, every time I walked by it I was not hit by the typical smell of fish market. So I know they sell fish, shrimp, crabs, oyster, even sauce for cocktail shrimp. I know the two neon signs they have up there. I know the delivery bikes they have lined up in the front sidewalk. I even like to stand right at the corner in front of it and take pictures of local characters walking about their morning. So I know this place. From the outside.
I never went in, curiously I was never curious about the inside. My mental image of what going on inside is based on my assumption. How often do we do this, how much of our knowledge of a place is based on assumption?
I walked by this place many times before trying it. The sign is in Japanese so I was never clear if it was a resaturant or just a sake bar and it was always crowded. I never had interest to try it specially by my self, not until a friend initiated me to it. We were early, place wasn't packed, we got really nice table (all with short little chairs, and a basket on the floor, to put our belongings). Kenka unique ambiance, sort of familiar, with half of it lighted with florescent light. The menu is ranging from the basic japanese tapas, to noodle and rice to some unique dishes (fatty pig feet, anyone?). I think it would take many visits before I can really say about the food, or to suggest a favorite. But, I do like that they give you a small cup of sugar and a stick at the end, to make cotton candy on your way out.
Once in a while I treat my self to this place in Hell's Kitchen called Cup Cake Cafe. They have the best kind of cup cakes. Rich, full bodied cake and buttery smooth frosting. Not to mention how beautiful they are. It seems each crafted and decorated as a work of art. You can feast with you eyes before indulging in their perfect taste.
They recently move to a new location and start serving really good cappucino. I don't usually drink cappunico since I like lots of coffee, but here I enjoy it because of the cup its being serve in. I love how it reveals a neat design of a dove as I sip and lower the foam...
Similar to the pretty cup cakes, the cup adds visual treat with nicely timed entrance.

His photography will be on display at the Brooklyn Studio through May 10.
My most favorited and most commented and most viewed picture so far... I took this while taking my stroll to clear my head while still working in SOHO area in NYC.
I took this photo one day I was visiting the school... I used to teach there for 6 years, at Toy Design Department. It was lots of fun and hard work, but I got too busy with my day job so I had to let go.
